Surf, Winds, Rain Expected

The forecast calls for light showers before Sunday morning.

High surf and high winds along with some rain will arrive in San Diego this weekend.

The first of two large ocean swells is expected to bring high surf Saturday to a few beaches in northern San Diego County according to the National Weather Service.

On Sunday, we’re going to see the second swell that could result in sets up to 12 feet in San Diego through Monday morning.

With the strong swell comes the danger of rip currents according to the NWS.

A high wind warning for the mountains will be in effect from 4 p.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. Sunday with areas of southwest to west winds 20 to 30 mph in the forecast. Gusts could reach 60 – 70 mph the NWS advises.

As for the rain, the forecast calls for light showers before Sunday morning.

“It’s not going to be a big rain event,” said meteorologist Jodi Kodesh. “It’s light stuff and for the most part it’s an overnight event.”
