Sunny Days At The Cash Register

Surf shop bouncing back from winter blues

Josh Hansen is happy to say goodbye to winter.

"It was very, very frustrating," said Josh with Hansen's Surf Shop, "It was one of the worst winters we'd had in a long time."

That's because there was very little snow-fall this year. A lack of snow across the country not only hurt ski resorts but shops like Hansen's that usually do brisk business selling skies, snowboards and Winter clothing. That's why Josh and his family are looking forward to the Summer shopping season.

"You always look for the next season to bring better things," said Josh Hansen.

And so far the season is starting out very well.  "The sun has shined in May and it seems a little warmer," says Josh.

Phillip Meyers, from Florida, says when the weather was overcast his family stayed inside, now that the sun is out he's spending money.

"I mean when it is nice out, you get out and buy stuff," said Meyers.

"We're like farmers," said Josh Hansen, "we need the sun for our business to be strong."

Today was a good shopping day but people in the surf business say their most important month for sales is July.  As for the winter clothes and snowboards that didn't get sold,  Hansen says look for sales in early Fall.
