Stray Bullets Narrowly Miss People in Paradise Hills Home: SDPD

Two persons of interest were detained about a block away from the shooting

Police are investigating a shooting in the Paradise Hills neighborhood that sent stray bullets into a nearby home, narrowly missing people inside.

Someone standing on the sidewalk on Cumberland Street near Rancho Drive fired rounds at a passing car at around 3:45 p.m., San Diego Police Department (SDPD) Lt. Jerry McManus said.

“I heard pop, pop, pop, pop! There was about six shots real fast. It happened so quickly I didn’t know to duck or anything,” said J.J. Heaviln, who lives nearby.

Police believe at least two bullets went through the walls of a house on the opposite side of the street and nearly hit adults that were inside.

McManus said the car, only described as a dark-colored sedan, fled the area at high speeds and police were unable to follow it.

McManus could not confirm the motive for the shooting, but said SDPD’s gang investigations unit responded to the scene.

Two persons of interest were detained about a block away, according to McManus.

Officers are interviewing neighbors and checking in with local hospitals to see if any gunshot patients show up.

The Paradise Hills neighborhood is located north of State Route 54 and east of Interstate 805, approximately 8 miles east of downtown.
