Strange Robbery: Suspect Poses as Professor

Early Wednesday evening, a man posing as an SDSU college professor called a La Mesa BJ's restaurant, asking to set up a management interview for one of his students near the restaurant closing time. The BJ's manager agreed to do the interview.

Shortly before midnight, La Mesa Police responded to a robbery call from the restaurant. The suspect had arrived for the "interview" posing as an SDSU student and started asking interview questions. In the middle of the "interview", however, the suspect told the manager that he was being robbed and told the manager to take him to the safe. The suspect left the restaurant with an undetermined amount on money in his briefcase, according to Alan Lanning, Chief of Police.

The suspect, described as being in his early twenties, was last seen walking from BJ's restaurant towards Center Drive in La Mesa. According to witness reports, a person matching the description of the suspect then got into an older model gold Cadillac with a white top, said police.
