Storm Bears Down, Hold Onto Your Hats!

Heavy rain and strong winds started lashing parts of San Diego county, resulting in wet roadways that caused more accidents than on a normal Sunday.  The winds are expected across the county throughout the day and then off and on again all week.

The California Highway Patrol reported heavy rain before 10 a.m. on Interstate 15 between Bonsall and Escondido. By 10:15 a.m., there were several traffic collisions in the area.

Wind warnings are posted for the East County with wind advisories everywhere else.  Gusts near the coast could hit 35-40 mph.  In the mountains and deserts they could gust into the 60s or even the 70s, which is near hurricane strength.  Travel will be hazardous through the mountains later Sunday and into the evening.

Later in the week we're expecting a couple of Santa Ana events to bring us some strong northeasterly winds.  In these events gusts could reach 40 mph hour or more below mountain passes.  The first Santa Ana is expected to move in for Tuesday and Wednesday; the second on Friday and this one could stick around through the weekend.
