Stolen Olympic Medal Recovered by Police

An Olympic athlete will soon have her gold medal around her neck again.

Oceanside police say they've recovered the gold medal reported missing by the winner of the women's skeleton at the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics.

Tristan Gale Geisler reported her medal, Olympic ring, engagement ring, computers and other possessions were taken during a break-in Jan. 25 at her Southern California home.

Investigators said they recovered the medal and the jewelry while serving a search warrant on Greenbrier Street. They also reported finding two assault rifles and other stolen property.

Police said they have three men in custody. An investigation is ongoing.

Competing under her maiden name at the time, Geisler helped American sliders sweep the skeleton golds at Salt Lake nearly nine years ago, when the sport returned to the Olympic program after a 54-year absence.
