Man Falsely Reported Child Missing After Carjacking

He said the fake child was named Johnny Diaz and could not provide a photo

A man falsely told police his 11-year-old cousin was abducted in a carjacking incident in Emerald Hills Saturday, San Diego Police said.

The man said 29-year-old Osman Rahimi stole his car and took his 11-year-old cousin from the Valero gas station on Euclid Avenue around 11:30 a.m.

He said the fake child was named Johnny Diaz and could not provide police a picture of the reported child.

Police initially issued an Amber Alert and then cancelled it soon after.

The 2006 black Honda Pilot was stopped on I-5 near Aliso Creek Rest Area in Oceanside, SDPD Lt. Shawn Takeuchi said. There was no child in the vehicle.

Police detained Rahimi and also took the man who reported the incident into custody.

Detectives were still trying to determine whether Rahimi was responsible for vehicle theft. The man who made the false report may face charges, SDPD said.

No other information was available.
