A man wanted on multiple felony warrants held law enforcement officials at bay in Serra Mesa for more than six hours during a standoff.
Joseph Curtis was taken into custody following the standoff. He had three felony warrants on charges of domestic violence, burglary, auto theft, and false impersonation.
San Diego County Sheriff's Department Fugitive Task Force was keeping an eye on a home where Curtis' relatives lived when they spotted him.
The standoff began around 4:42 p.m. on the 8600 block of Hurlbut Street just south of Aero Drive, near Montgomery Field.
Curtis was holed up in a second-floor apartment since just before 5 p.m., deputies said.
At one point, the man had his five-year-old niece with him, but released her through a second-story window, officials said.
Officials fired four shots into the apartment in an attempt to get the suspect to come out. Witnesses said a less lethal bean bag ammunition was used.

The family was nearby and had tried to encourage the man to come out peacefully, witnesses said.
Around 9 p.m., law enforcement officers fired two more less lethal rounds into the apartment.
The suspect surrendered peacefully just before 11 p.m. and was taken into custody.
