Man Stabbed at Hotel in Alpine

Victim was stabbed in the shoulder or arm

A man was stabbed at a hotel in Alpine Saturday morning.

Sheriffs said the stabbing happened around 8 a.m. at the Ayres Lodge on Tavern Road.

According to investigators, a woman and 25-year-old man had met each other at Viejas earlier and then went to the hotel together. It doesn’t appear they knew each other beforehand, sheriffs said.

Another man showed up to the hotel and that’s when the stabbing occurred. The male suspect stabbed the other man in the shoulder or arm.

Sheriffs said the suspect and female then left the hotel together, fleeing in a ‘90s-model white Hyundai sedan.

The victim of the stabbing had some belongings stolen from him. Sheriffs believe this could have been a setup possibly orchestrated by the male suspect and female who originally went to the hotel with the victim.

No further information is available regarding the victim’s condition, though sheriffs said his injury does not appear to be life-threatening.

On May 8, Alpine detectives arrested suspect Jeremiah Monchak in connection with this robbery and stabbing that occurred at Ayres Lodge on April 21.

Monchak was booked into Central Jail for robbery and assault with a deadly weapon, according to authorities.

The woman involved in the stabbing remains at large.
