Fight Leads to Spring Valley Man's Death

Investigators are trying to determine what started the deadly fight

Investigators have identified a man killed during a fight with another man in Spring Valley Tuesday.

Deputies were called to the 3600 block of South Cordoba Avenue in Spring Valley around 4 p.m.

Sheriff's homicide detectives said when deputies arrived they found a man in his 50s lying in the driveway of a home.

The county's medical examiner has identified the victim as Jay Newman, 53, of Spring Valley.

Witnesses and deputies performed CPR before Newman was taken to Grossmont Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

It's unclear what started the fight and why it turned deadly.

John Guy Durham, 55, was arrested and booked on one count of murder according to deputies.

Neighbors said the two men involved in the fight are brothers.
