Spin Class, Radio-Telethon at Petco Park Benefits Cancer Research

Stationary bikes will take over Petco Park next month as the San Diego Padres cycle in a new fundraiser for local cancer researchers.

The inaugural Pedal the Cause Radio-Telethon and Spin at the Park will take place Saturday, Sept. 12.

In the outfield, organizers will hold a one-hour spin class open to the public at 6:05 p.m., just as the Padres start playing the Giants at San Francisco’s AT&T Park. Spinners will be able to watch the game on the park’s large video board.

If they make it through the heart-pumping class, participants will be treated to an on-field after-party.

Starting at 2 p.m., volunteers will be accepting donations as the radio-telethon is broadcast on FOX Sports San Diego and The Mighty 1090. Donations will be taken through the Padres’ game that night. Those who wish to contribute can call 1-844-PEDALSD or text “Pedal” to 41444.

Tickets for Spin at the Park are $50 and include the class, a custom towel, one beverage ticket, free parking and two tickets to the Padres versus Arizona Diamondbacks game on Sept. 26.

Proceeds will benefit local organizations like Moores Cancer Center at UC San Diego Health, Sanford-Burnham-Prebys Medical Discovery Institute, the Salk Institute for Biological Studies and Rady Children’s Hospital.
