Son Discovered Dad Burning, Put Out Fire

New information is coming out about the death of an Escondido man, burned in an accident in his own garage Wednesday.

The man's son discovered his father burning and put out the fire, according to the county medical examiner.

Steven Phillips Metz, 66, was alone in his garage at 3442 Apostle Road in Escondido when fire started around 12:30 p.m.

His son was in the home, heard the smoke alarm and grabbed a garden hose to help put out the fire, according to the North County Times.

San Diego County Sheriff's bomb and arson team investigated the explosion but it is believed to have been accidental.
