Suspected Credit Card Thieves Caught on Surveillance Camera

The suspects are accused of trying to shop at a San Diego Wal-Mart with a credit card that was stolen out of a car parked in Solana Beach in late December

Two suspects accused of stealing a credit card out of an unlocked car in Solana Beach were caught on surveillance camera trying to shop with the lifted card at a Wal-Mart, to no avail.

On Thursday, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department (SDSO) released details in the identity theft and burglary case, along with photos of the suspects.

According to detectives, sometime between 9 p.m. on Dec. 29, 2015, and 5 a.m. on Dec. 30, a credit card was stolen from a car parked at a condominium complex in the 900 block of Via Mil Cumbres in Solana Beach. The vehicle was unlocked and the owner of the credit card lived in the complex, detectives said.

At around 5:30 a.m. on Dec. 30, two suspects attempted to use the stolen credit card at a San Diego-area Wal-Mart in the 3300 block of Murphy Canyon Road. The stolen card was declined and the transaction was canceled. The crime was caught on Wal-Mart’s security cameras, detectives said.

Now, officials are trying to identify those suspects, hoping someone recognizes them from the surveillance images.

Detectives describe the first suspect as a 25 to 30-year-old Caucasian woman standing at 5-foot-8, weighing about 180 pounds. The suspect had neck-length, blonde hair and wore a brown hooded jacket and faded blue jeans during the Wal-Mart trip. Detectives say this suspect could also be a man.

The second suspect is described as a 25-year-old Asian man standing at 5-foot-6, weighing approximately 160 pounds. He had short, black hair and wore eyeglasses, a blue and tan hooded jacket and jeans.

Detectives said the suspects were seen driving a four-door Ford Taurus, and the vehicle was also captured on surveillance video. The color of the car is not clear in the image released by officials.

The case is under investigation. Anyone with information on the identities of these suspects should call the North Coastal Sheriff’s Station at (760) 966-3500 or the Crime Stoppers anonymous tip line at (888) 580-8477. Tipsters can remain anonymous and may be eligible for up to a $1,000 reward for information that leads to arrests in this case.
