Small Trailer Fire at Naval Medical Center Sends Thick Smoke Above Balboa Park

Thick smoke from a small trailer fire at the San Diego Naval Medical Center could be seen for miles around Balboa Park, Federal Fire Department officials said.

A car with an attached trailer caught fire shortly after 1 p.m. Monday on the 34800 block of Bob Wilson Drive in San Diego, according to federal fire officials.

Everyone inside the trailer got out safely, officials said.

Officials did not request extra help from San Diego Police. One San Diego Fire-Rescue crew was sent to the scene.

"No explosion and no police resources are needed," San Diego Police said in a tweet.

Popping sounds were likely from something inside the trailer, officials said.
