Man Killed in Coronado Crash

Donn Alexander Sterling, who worked for the U.S. Post Office in Coronado, was the only person in the car

A man was killed when the car he was driving went out of control along the Silver Strand Thursday night and landed on a sandbar.

A white Honda SUV was going south on the strand just before 7 p.m. when the car drove through the lot at Fiddler's Cove Marina according to Coronado police.

The car rolled over a steep embankment, hit the sand and rolled into the water's edge.

The driver was identified by the San Diego County medical examiner as Donn Alexander Sterling, 62, of San Diego.

Sterling, who worked for the U.S. Post Office in Coronado, was the only person in the car.
Officers are not sure why he suddenly lost control of the vehicle.
