Shots Fired in Escondido

A man was shot in a parking lot in Escondido Saturday night, according to police.

Escondido police Sgt. Eric Distel said the shooting happened at approximately 10:12 p.m. in the 1000 block of Rock Springs Road.

The victim was hanging out with a group of people in a parking lot when a suspect called out to him, Sgt. Distel said. The suspect said some unknown racial comments to the victim and opened fire.

Sgt. Distel said three to six shots were fired and the victim was hit once, sustaining a non-life threatening wound to his gastro-intestinal region. The suspect fled the scene.

The victim was transported to Palomar Medical Center and is expected to recover.

Police describe the shooting suspect as a white male in his 30s with a medium build. He was wearing a brown hooded sweatshirt and light-colored shorts with green stripes during the assault, Sgt. Distel said.
