Chula Vista Police Investigate Fatal Shooting That Killed One, Injured Other

Witnesses said up to three armed men fired multiple rounds at the two men, killing one and injuring the other.

Police search for several suspects after one man was killed and another injured in a shooting in Chula Vista Tuesday night.

Multiple calls came in about shots being fired in the neighborhood, according to the Chula Vista Police Department (CVPD). The shooting happened at approximately 10:27 p.m. on Church Avenue and Kearny Street.

Two men were shot and transported to the hospital, police said. One man was critically injured and died shortly after 11 p.m. The other was shot in his legs, which was not determined to be life-threatening.

A police helicopter was in the area, assisting in an active search for up to three felony suspects, possibly armed. Several witnesses said there were two or three black men wearing hoodies and carrying handguns.

They said the suspects fired multiple rounds at the victims and fled.

An investigation into the shooting is underway by the Chula Vista Crimes of Violence Detectives, which may impact traffic in the area for several hours.
