SDSU Students Warned of Sexual Assault

Campus police at San Diego State University are investigating a report of a sexual assault near the campus.

The victim reported she was attacked by a man on a sidewalk in front of Campanile Apartments on Montezuma Road around 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 6, according to a bulletin from campus police.

The woman reported the man was stocky, and about 5'8" wearing a dirty long-sleeved white hooded sweatshirt and dark pants. He is described as Hispanic with short dark-colored thin hair, police said.

The man is believed to have driven away in a car headed southbound on Campanile Drive. The car is described as an older model, four door, dirty white colored square-shaped vehicle -- possibly a station wagon or similar type of vehicle.

One student said she feels safe walking around campus -- but she's always aware of her surroundings.

"Obviously it's very nerve wracking to hear about things like that. Our residence halls are very good about posting police advisories and things like that," said Kristine Rezny. "It's life and it does happen unfortunately but you have to go about it and make sure you're taking precautions.

The campus police bulletin advises students to "take all necessary precautions."

An off-campus housing complex, University Towers, is near Campanile Apartments. Calls to SDSU for reaction have not been returned.

If you have any information that may help in the case, you're asked to contact SDSU's Police Department (619) 594-1991.
