USO to Give Appreciation Bags at Airport for Christmas

In preperation for Christmas, the local alumni chapter for Pepperdine University, the San Diego Waves, put together approximately 4,000 bags Sunday at the USO Neil Ash Airport Center located outside Terminal 2.

Military members traveling through the San Diego airport during the week of Christmas will receive the ‘Waves of Appreciation’ bags as a thank you for serving.

"The idea is that the servicemembers travel without any kind of stipend or money or anything on them, they often times get dropped off from Pendelton to the airport, 8, 10 hours before their flight," Elise Korican, a Pepperdine alumni volunteer told NBC7. "We are trying to give them some food and nourishment to keep them going for the long flights and the long waiting at the airports."

The bags will be filled with snacks and thank you cards from the community.

This is Pepperdine’s fourth year working with USO San Diego.
