Fire Threatens Senior Apartments in Escondido

Everyone woke up to loud alarms and firefighters banging on their doors

When an Escondido apartment caught fire Wednesday morning, nearby residents were evacuated.

What made this even more challenging for firefighters, the complex was filled will disabled seniors.

The fire started just before 3:30 a.m. at 715 N. Broadway in Escondido.

The Casa Escondida complex has 350 units. Half of its residents use wheelchairs to get around.

Escondido firefighters said the one apartment suffered extensive damage in the fire and several units nearby were evacuated.

No injuries were reported in the incident. The cause is under investigation.

The San Diego chapter of the American Red Cross is assisting the one resident displaced by the fire.
