Sempra CEO Named to Fortune's 50 Most Powerful Women in Business

Debra Reed, chairman and CEO of Sempra Energy, was named to this year’s 50 Most Powerful Women in Business list compiled by Fortune Magazine.

It’s the third consecutive year that Reed, 57, has been named to the list, which Fortune launched in 1998. The list appears in the Oct. 28 edition.

In compiling the list, the business magazine said it used four criteria: the size and importance of the business in the global economy; the health and direction of the business; the arc of the woman’s career; and social and cultural influence.

Reed has served as Sempra’s CEO since 2011 and as the company’s chairman since 2012. She spent her entire 35-year career with Sempra Energy companies. From 2006 to 2010, she was the president and CEO of San Diego Gas & Electric, and the Southern California Gas Co.

Based in San Diego, Sempra is the holding company for four main subsidiaries, and had 2012 revenue of about $10 billion. It has 17,000 employees and more than 31 million customers worldwide.
