Body of Missing Sailor Found

The U.S. Navy reports search teams have found the body of a sailor reported missing from a San Diego-based guided-missile destroyer in the Gulf of Oman.

Helicopters and airplanes conducted the search after the sailor failed to report for watch aboard USS Halsey, according to the U.S. Naval Forces Central Command/5th Fleet.

A U.S. military official tells NBC News they have no reason to believe foul play is involved.

The sailor's name was not released until her family is notified.

The Halsey (pictured above in file photo) is part of the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln Strike Group. The Navy destroyer departed San Diego on Sept. 11.

Lt. Frederick Martin, in a phone call from a U.S. Navy base in Bahrain, described conditions for the search as favorable, water temperature in the mid 70s, surf small and visibility good.
