Search On for Inmate Who Walked Away from Re-Entry Program

Authorities on Sunday are looking for an inmate who walked away from a community re-entry program Saturday evening, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation announced.

Cory Lamont Henley, 47, removed his GPS ankle bracelet around 5:35 p.m. Saturday in the downtown San Diego area and walked away from the San Diego Male Community Reentry Program.

Within minutes of Henley removing his ankle monitor, agents from CDCR’s Office of Correctional Safety were dispatched to find and catch Henley but they weren’t able to find him, the agency said.

Henley is 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighs 270 pounds. He was sentenced to five years in 2018 for transportation and sales of a controlled substance and transferred to the CDCR's custody in May 2018, the agency said.

The re-entry program is a voluntary program for inmates with around 12 months left on their sentence. The program allows inmates to serve the end of the sentence in a re-entry center that helps them readjust to society.

Anyone who sees or knows the whereabouts of Henley was urged to contact police or call 911, the CDCR said.

Any male inmate who has ever walked away from the re-entry program was eventually recaptured, the CDCR said.
