Sea Lion's Bite Is Worse Than Its Bark

A slight scare at SeaWorld over the weekend when a trainer was hospitalized after getting bitten.

The trainer was bitten in the leg by a sea lion during a performance and was treated for minor injuries. A SeaWorld spokesman characterized the bite as a "nip."

"Anytime there is a situation out of the norm, we always take a look at it to see what might have caused it and apply it to our training program with the animals to prevent similar problems," SeaWorld spokesman Dave Koontz told the San Diego Union-Tribune.

The park said all sea lion performances will continue as planned but officials stressed they were taking the incident seriously. The trainer, 27, is expected to return to work Monday.
