Sea Lion Returns to Ocean

Once free from the fishing gear, the animal quickly ran back to the ocean and swam away

A sea lion that was injured by a fishing hook was rescued in La Jolla today, according to officials.

SeaWorld’s rescue team, alongside San Diego lifeguards, executed the complicated rescue that involved rappelling down a cliff, netting a juvenile California sea lion estimated to weigh 175 pounds and cutting the hook that had punctured its lower lip.

Once free from the fishing gear, the animal ran back to the ocean and swam away.
