Scripps Ranch Advised to Shelter in Place After Crews Strike Gas Line

A construction crew struck a natural gas line in Scripps Ranch on Friday, knocking out service for at least 20 homes, according to San Diego Gas & Electric.

Crews were doing excavation work on the 10000 block of Loire Avenue when they struck the 1 1/2-inch line around 11 a.m., SDG&E spokesman Joe Britton said.

Around 15 - 20 homes were affected by the gas leak, he said.

Residents were advised to shelter in place, San Diego Fire-Rescue spokeswoman Monica Munoz said.

The repair was expected to last three to four hours, Britton said.
