Scripps Health Acquires Hillcrest Hospice Facility

Scripps Health out bid Sharp HealthCare on April 30 with a $16.55 million offer for the bankrupt San Diego Hospice’s Hillcrest facility.

The bids began at $11 million in bankruptcy court, and culminated in Scripps outbidding Sharp by $50,000.

Scripps Health was the initial contender for the 24-bed, eight-acre property, which was slated for auction following San Diego Hospice’s Feb. 4 bankruptcy statement.

The troubled hospice faced scrutiny following a November audit that found that its admissions policies didn’t adhere to government guidelines, and that it owed millions to creditors.
