Saving Lives: All in a Day's Work for These Heroes

San Diego's newest batch of heroes are getting ready to graduate. But first, they want to show you what they're made of.

With just two days to go before graduation, the 19th Heartland Fire Academy recruits will be demonstrating their skills for several Heartland Fire Chiefs, family members and the media. It will take place Saturday April 18 at 10 a.m. at the Heartland Fire Training Facility in El Cajon.

The group just completed 14 grueling weeks of training. Among the 21 graduates are recruits for the  El Cajon,
Alpine, Bonita, Coronado, Lakeside and Mt. Laguna Fire Departments.

Fire training involved hundreds of hours of classroom sessions on topics such as firefighter safety, equipment operation,
fire extinguishers, forcible entry tools and techniques, fire hose, hose nozzles and fittings, ladders, breathing apparatus, fire control,
fire prevention and more. Recruits also had to pass weekly training evaluations.

The Academy graduation will be held on Monday, April 20 at 6 p.m., at the Ronald Reagan Community Center.
