City of Santee Approves Construction of 42-Unit Condo Complex on 3-Acre Lot

The Santee City Council approved the construction of a new 42-unit condo development on a three-acre lot located on a dead-end dirt road.

City Ventures is proposing the complex to be located at 8707 Caribbean Way.

Only two homes currently sit on the lot that is surrounded by other homes, condos and a mobile home park.

Neighbors voiced concerns at a city council meeting Wednesday night about lack of parking, more traffic, and the height of the new condos.

Marianne Taxter, who lives next to the project site, said under the current plan, she'll have the equivalent of a 40-foot wall just feet from her property.

“It’s going to block the sun most of the year for me and I'm a gardener. It's going to destroy our privacy,” Taxter said.

The complex will include six two-story buildings with five condos in each and three buildings with four condos in each.

There will be two parking spaces inside a garage assigned to each condo unit. The developer said there will be an additional 13 parking spaces for guests.

Under the Santee Municipal Code, a developer must provide two parking spaces for each dwelling with two or more bedrooms and one guest parking space for every four units in a complex.

No date yet for construction to begin.
