Sitting in the passenger seat of a sergeant's patrol car is Santa holding the car's PA control offering up a "Ho, Ho, Ho!" in between the sound of the car's sirens. A caravan of patrol cars filled in for Santa's sleigh, accompanying him as he delivered toys to hundreds of children in City Heights Tuesday.
Officers wore Christmas hats as they entered homes with wrapped gifts for the children inside. Some officers even dressed in elf costumes.
"It makes us feel good to give back to the community we work in," said an SDPD spokesperson. "It puts a lot of love in our heart."
The event is sponsored by the Target, Toys for Tots, SD Police Officers Association, Starbucks, SD Police Officers Historical Society and private donors.
