San Marcos Worker Sues Costco For $50M

Somebody's really unhappy in North County, and they're letting their lawyer do the talking.

A Costco Wholesale employee filed a $50 million lawsuit against the company in San Diego, claiming Costco violated wage and hour laws in California. According to the complaint, Costco required employees to work off the clock, failed to pay overtime and required employees to remain locked inside the store after they'd clocked out at the end of their shift.

The lawsuit seeks class-action status.
     
An attorney for the clerk, Mary Pytelewski, said that Costco requires employees to remain in the store for about 15 minutes after they finish their shift while store managers perform closing activities. The attorney says Costco claims keeping employees inside is necessary for store security.
