Woman Thrown from Car in I-5 Crash

Passersby jumped into action to help a woman thrown into the bushes when her car crashed Monday along Interstate 5 near downtown.

Witnesses say they heard a crash and saw a big cloud of dust near I-5 just south of Washington Street.

A woman driving a blue Ford Focus struck the guard rail and rolled down the embankment.

When witnesses rushed to help the driver, they say they didn’t find her inside the car.

After searching the area, they realized the driver had been ejected from the vehicle.

Jerome Mostero was across the street when he heard a screech and a very loud bang.

He said they found the woman under the trunk of a tree.

“I held her head and she was able to breathe which was great,” Mostero said.

California Highway Patrol officers were on scene gathering evidence to determine what caused the crash. No details were given on the driver's condition.
