Arianna Afsar, 18, was crowned Miss California in Fresno last month.
On Sunday, Afsar got a big welcome during several events around San Diego County. The teen is a music major at UCLA and hopes to pursue a singing career.
If the Westview High School graduate looks familiar, it may be because she made it to the Top 36 on "American Idol" last year. As for why she won the Miss California crown, Afsar said you'll have to ask the judges.
"I guess I have the qualities to hopefully snag the title of Miss America," Afsar said. "I don't know -- that's my crossing the fingers, so we'll see."
Afsar will compete in the Miss America pageant in Las Vegas in January.
