A celebration of life will be held Saturday for a former San Diego Silverbacks player who was killed last month in a motorcycle crash.

James Haiman, 29, was killed Jan. 21 while riding his motorcycle near the intersection of Genesee and Balboa avenues.

San Diego police traffic investigators said Haiman lost control of his motorcycle when he crashed. According to the San Diego County Medical Examiner's report, Haiman died of blunt force trauma to the head.

Haiman was recognized as the Most Dedicated Player of 2018 for the San Diego Silverbacks, a semi-professional football team. On February 9 at Clairemont High School, the team will hold a moment of silence before the game to remember Haiman.

Head coach Elliot Limbrick told his team if there was a picture in the dictionary next to the word “man,” it would be Haiman’s picture.

"He was a standup guy. I want your attitudes to emulate his,” Limbrick told his team.

Limbrick said Haiman was always there for his team whenever they needed him, and they could always count on him to be present at community events spreading the word about the team.

A GoFundMe page was created to help Haiman's family during this time.

The team will award the "James Haiman Award of Dedication" every year to one player willing to help out wherever needed.

"Every game, every minute on the field, every time we put on Silverbacks apparel or uniform we will think of James,” Limbrick said.

The Silverbacks face the West Coast Lions at 2 p.m., Saturday at Clairemont High School on Ute Drive.  Parking is free and there is a $12 admission fee to watch the game.
