San Diego Pilot Joins Blue Angels

Lt. Holly Taylor will be one of two women on the team in 2012

A San Diego pilot is joining the Blue Angels in 2012, the Navy announced.

Navy Lt. Holly Taylor will join the team in 2012. She is currently training at the North Island Naval Complex in San Diego, where the 36-year-old is assigned to the Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron Light 49. She will be the new administration officer for the Blue Angels Navy flight Demonstration Squadron.

Taylor will be the second woman to join the team in 2012, alongside returning squadron member Lt. Katie Kelly.

Nearly 50 people applied for the position following an intensive interview process, according to Navy Lt. Cmdr. Jim Tomaszeski.

Exactly 16 officers voluntarily serve with the team each year. Taylor will be responsible for the administrative duties, which includes controlling legal and security concerns.
