Family Escapes House Fire on Christmas Morning

Twelve people escaped a house fire in Lincoln Park early Christmas Day.

A large family was staying at the home on 50th Street when fire broke out in the attic just before 3 a.m.

A San Diego Fire-Rescue captain said the fire started from an electrical outlet that was outside the home.

Flames then spread into the attic of the home and, because of the insulation in the attic, it spread quickly and burned through the entire attic.

The other unit in the duplex was not damaged but residents were without power on Christmas morning.

The San Diego chapter of the American Red Cross was helping the family with blankets and food but the family told NBC 7 they would not need a place to stay. They were going to spend Christmas with another relative in the area.
