Fire Damages Unit at Park Row Condo Complex

Residents of a downtown San Diego condominium complex awoke Monday to the smell of smoke and the sound of sirens.

Black smoke was rising from one of the units at the Park Row Condo San Diego on E Street near Kettner Boulevard.

San Diego Fire-Rescue crews were called to the complex near Seaport Village just before 5 a.m.

Two people living in the condo woke up after the smoke alarm activated and left immediately.

Using a ladder, firefighters accessed the roof of the condo and broke one of the windows to get inside. It took them approximately 30 minutes to get the fire under control.

No one was injured. There was no formal evacuation but some residents decided to leave the complex due to the smoke.

San Diego Police also responded to help with traffic control.

The cause of the fire was electrical and deemed accidental, according to San Diego Fire-Rescue spokesperson Lee Swanson.
