San Diego Couples Leap (Day) Into Marriage

Dozens of couples decided to marry on a day that only comes once every four years – Leap Day.

On Monday, 71% of the people who came into the County assessor/recorder/clerk’s office to get a marriage license got married compared to about half who usually do on any given Monday.

Couples had different reasons for wanting to marry on Leap Day.

Aidan Shaver and Raeline Morgan wanted to have a rare date. They plan to have a small celebration each anniversary but ‘go big’ on Leap Years.

Luis Soto and Judith Martinez had originally planned to get married in April, but decided on Leap Day because hey “wanted something extra special,” Soto said. “A date to remember.”

Armando Lopez and Stephan Tate chose the date because it’s Lopez’s birthday. The couple has been together for 22 years.
