Deputy Injured in Foot Chase

A San Diego County sheriff’s deputy was injured early Friday during a foot chase.

The deputy was attempting to detain two suspects along Broadway near Olive Street in Lemon Grove around 1:20 a.m.

While talking with the two men, the deputy handcuffed one suspect. At that point the second man tried to run officials said.

As the deputy ran after the suspect he fell and injured his elbow and his leg.

When the call for backup was made, ASTREA, several K9’s and all available deputies responded to the scene.

Despite a search of the area, the suspect wasn’t found.

The unidentified deputy was treated and released at the scene.

The suspect that had been handcufffed was arrested and booked into San Diego Central Jail for possession of a controlled substance, being under the influence of a controlled substance and destruction of evidence according to deputies.
