Incumbent Summer Stephan pulled ahead of her challenger, Jones-Wright as early tallies were counted in San Diego County's district attorney race.
Stephan held a commanding lead Wednesday morning with 63 percent of the vote. Jones-Wright had received 36 percent of the vote so far.
The district attorney's race is one of the few San Diego County races that will be decided during the primary.
The race pitted Stephan, the interim DA hand-picked by her predecessor, Bonnie Dumanis, against Jones-Wright, a self-described virtual no-name up-start with a reform agenda.
Stephan was unanimously appointed interim DA last July by the County Board of Supervisors and finished off the remaining 18 months of Bonnie Dumanis’ term after she stepped down that same month.
Though both campaigns used outside spending, the finger-pointing began after Jones-Wright's commercials hit the air. They were funded by out-of-state billionaire George Soros and the California Justice and Public Safety Political Action Committee.
Stephan was very critical of the out of town support and went on the attack sighting her extensive experience in the DA's office and her opponents lack of experience prosecuting cases.

After the polls closed Tuesday, Stephan thanked supporters at Golden Hall. Jones-Wright was expected to attend but did not show.
