Some San Diego County residents -- and stars like Burt Reynolds -- are on a list of the California's biggest tax scofflaws released by the state franchise tax board.
Local residents on the list include Michelle M. Quinn of Oceanside, who owes nearly $1.7 million, San Diegan Jovina A. Flores ($360,003.38), Moises Pacheco of Chula Vista ($350,927.09), Stephen R. Miller of Fallbrook ($317,904.38), El Cajon's Michael J. Pettiford ($313,163.21), Nora I. Drand of La Jolla ($261,878.73), Richard A. and Jennifer K. Williams of San Diego ($239,263.94) and John R. Sullivan, also of San Diego, who owes $238,656.10.
California's budget deficit would shrink by nearly $5 million if singer Dionne Warwick and comedian Sinbad Adkins would pay their taxes. Sinbad owes $2.5 million in personal income tax, while Warwick owes $2.2 million, putting them in the top 10 of the state's 250 worst tax debtors. Reynolds owes $225,000, according to the list.
Debtors can get their name off the list by paying up or agreeing to an installment plan. Board spokeswoman Brenda Vote said she cannot discuss individual cases.
Warwick's spokesman, Kevin Sasaki, said the singer has been working with the board to pay her outstanding taxes. He did not know how much money had been repaid.
A spokeswoman for Sinbad declined to comment.
A spokesman for Burt Reynolds said the actor has paid all outstanding California taxes and should have his name removed from a list. Reynolds' spokesman, Jeffrey Lane, told The Associated Press on Friday that the 73-year-old actor fully repaid his debt in the 1990s. Tax board spokeswoman Brenda Vote would not discuss Reynolds' case but said debtors received several notices that they would appear on the 2009 list.
