Saldaña Rejects Claims She is Tied to Conservative Donors

Just a few days before the election, Board of Supervisors candidate, Nathan Fletcher, is claiming that a conservative group is backing fellow Democrat Lori Saldaña.

“We’re fighting back,” said Fletcher.

“There’s been an unprecedented level of right-wing, Republican-funded dark money that’s flowing into this race, but it flows in, in a deceptive way. They’re trying to deceive Democratic voters to vote for the Democrat they can beat,” Fletcher added.

The dark money that Fletcher is talking about is coming from a political committee funded by the Lincoln Club. Saldaña says she’s not connected to them.

“If people are aiming at another candidate, it is out of the control of anything we do. We focus on getting our message out and it’s not against another candidate,” said Saldaña.

For Saldaña, the bigger concern is that the Democratic Party has thrown its financial support towards Fletcher.

As money continues to flow, the candidates are focused on sharing their message, and getting voters to the polls.

“We need a climate action plan. We need to reduce energy costs with the community choice energy program. We need to support our veterans. They’re the fastest growing group of homeless in San Diego,” said Saldaña.

“Taking care of immigrants and refugees, fighting polluters, making sure we have clean air and clean water. Making sure we help the least among us who need a helping hand. Those are things the people of San Diego support,” said Fletcher.

The Lincoln Club says it is opposed to Lori Saldaña.

There are five people running for the open 4th district seat: Fletcher, Saldaña, Bonnie Dumanis, Omar Passons and Ken Malbrough.

Fletcher has faced the most opposition when it comes to outside money. He has also been the most successful at fundraising.
