Passersby rushed to the aid of those inside an SUV that rolled off State Route 67 Wednesday.
The crash happened at about 4:50 p.m. near Scripps Poway Parkway.
The California Highway Patrol says a tan SUV flew off the freeway and rolled down an embankment.
Witnesses stopped and tried to pull people out of the vehicle.
The CHP has issued a Sig Alert for the single southbound lane of the highway. Some vehicles are being allowed through the northbound lanes.
There is no word on injuries.
