SF Mayor “Gift from God” For Prop 8 Propagandists

"Like it or not" commerical producers given award

The 2009 Pollie award from the American Association of Political Consultants went to Frank Schubert -- the man behind the ad featuring San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom promising that same-sex marriage will happen "whether you like it or not."

When asked how the pro-Proposition 8 team managed to turn around the polls and coast to victory, Schubert cited discipline, the religious community and "a gift from God: Gavin Newsom," reports the San Francisco Chronicle.

While many in the audience might not have agreed with the message, as Schubert acknowledged, a room full of propagandists surely know good work when they see it.

The ballot measure, which was intended to pre-empt any same-sex marriage rights by altering the California constitution, went from behind to win by a healthy margin.

However, the California Supreme Court is considering a case brought against the proposition.

Opponents have argued that since it was a change to the constitution itself, and not an amendment, it should have gone before the state legislature before it got to the polls.

Which leaves the status of thousands of legally wed same-sex couples currently in limbo.

Jackson West would have grimaced right along side San Francisco City Attorney Dennis Herrera.
