SD Crime Down Since 2009

Crime in California at its lowest level since 1968

California's violent crime rate has reached its lowest level in more than 40 years.

According to the Department of Justice, the rate decreased nearly 7 percent last year – the lowest since 1968.

The report also shows the crime rate went down in every category of violent or property offenses for the fourth year in a row.

Homicides were down 7.8 percent, robbery dropped 10 percent and vehicle theft fell 7.6 percent.

Here in San Diego, there were just over 6,000 violent crimes in 2010. That's about 300 fewer cases compared to 2009.
