Robbing Hood Suspects Caught on Tape

The hoods didn't hide a pair of suspected crooks from surveillance cameras last Monday.

Investigators said one of the men showed a black semi-automatic handgun to a clerk at the Stater Bros. Market in the 13550 block of Poway Road in Poway on April 19 at about 9 p.m.  After pushing his way into the pharmacy, he demanded Oxycontin and other prescription drugs.  He then fled with his haul of pills in a green reusable shopping bag.

"It was well over 15 thousand dollars with a variety of different prescription medications,"said Sheriff's Detective Chris Cross.  He believes the suspect may be selling the drugs on the street.

"Oxycontin is averaging anywhere from 50 to 60 dollars a tablet, if not more,"Cross said.

Investigators say the suspect was last seen walking east on Poway Road -- they do think he may have had an accomplice, because a short time before the robbery, a different man entered, then left the business. While he was outside, he made a phone call, then came back in, got a 36-pack of Coors beer and walked out without paying.

The gunman is about 20 years old, 5 feet 10 inches tall and has a thin to medium build. He was wearing sunglasses, a black-and white-checked hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans. His alleged accomplice is 18-20 years old, about the same height and has a medium build. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, a black baseball cap, a black T-shirt with a white logo on it, blue jeans and white tennis shoes.

Investigators say the gunman could be responsible for other similar pharmacy robberies across the county including ones in Mira Mesa and Escondido.
