Rival Gangs Teamed Up As Pimps: Cops

Ten people, including some members of four different Oceanside gangs, are accused of pimping three teenagers in motels from Carlsbad to Escondido as well as Riverside County.

All defendants face federal charges according to an indictment that was unsealed Tuesday the North County Times reports.

Investigators say rival gang members teamed up to make money.

"The gang angle was surprising to us," Oceanside police Lt. Joe Young told the paper. "But the common denominator was that they were making money. I believe that is what brought them together."

Eight of the 10 defendants are from Oceanside, and their ages range from 18 to 28. The Oceanside defendants are Malcolm Jamal Allen, 18; Ama Bahati Bernard, 25; Devon Leontae Sutton, 21; Birdia Rollins, 20; Nicole Brook Tierney, 28; Dominique Cortez Little, 20; Joseph Anthony Ponder, 20; and Alexandra Grove, 19, according to the paper.

A hearing is scheduled for Thursday in federal court. Read more in the article in the North County Times.
