Returning Troops Honored by Local Non-Profit

Freedom is Not Free puts on event for troops from noon until 3 p.m. Sunday

Returning troops will be honored at Kaleidoscope Entertainment Center in Mission Viejo on Sunday.

The event is being put on by a non-profit organization, San Diego’s Freedom Is Not Free, which is dedicated to assisting wounded service members and their families.

“A Tribute to Our Nations Heroes and Their Families” will begin at 12 p.m. and will last until 3 p.m. to honor returning troops as part of the “Purple Hearts Campaign.”

“Raising awareness of the sacrifices and valor of our service men and women has always been a passion of mine,” said John Winslow, Executive Director of Freedom Is Not Free.

Several special activities are planned for the event.

Featured acts include the National Anthem performed by the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing Band from Miramar, synchronized ice skating by the Ice’ Kateers of Anaheim, dance performances from Cal Elite’s Classical Contemporary Ballet Company and a patriotic musical performance from OCHSA Music Theatre.

Along with Sunday’s event, Kaleidoscope is also partnering with local businesses through Valentine’s Day to raise money with Purple Heart Donation Cards.

There's also a Facebook partnership in which $5 donations will go to the organization for every fan who “likes” the Kaleidoscope page.

Discounts to Sunday's event will be offered to all military personnel with the proper ID and for more information visit Kaleidoscope website.
