Reliving The Horrors Of Iraq With Comics

Unless you've experienced it, you can only imagine the horrors of the war in Iraq.

Tyler Jones of Escondido depicts his nightmares about being a Marine on tour in Iraq in a dark, futuristic comic book titled, "Land of Confusion".

The story, which Jones describes as "pure chaos", takes place in the dark future of lawless Orange County.

The main characters featured in his series include four former Marines who face multiple threats from various factions. The setting isn't foreign, but rather a Southern California battleground with "no real hard and fast law other than vigilantism," said Jones.

Jones, an honor student at MiraCosta College in Oceanside, received his inspiration for comic book writers like Will Eisner ("The Spirit") and Alan Moore ("Watchmen").

Jones served in Iraq during his tour with the Marines from 2002 to 2006.

"I have nightmares, but i'd willingly do it again," Jones said about his tour.

The series has not yet been published, however, Jones and his partners will be a preview book signing and original art sale on Sunday from 12 to 3 p.m. at 2Spoons Coffee Company, located at 3829 Plaza Drive in Oceanside.
