Campfire Left Burning Caused Recycle Fire: Officials

A campfire left burning on private property has been identified as the cause of a wildfire near Campo that scorched more than 200 acres and threatened homes.

As of Friday morning, the Recycle Fire stood at 265 acres in the remote area east of San Diego along State Route 94.

Temporary evacuation warnings were issued by law enforcement authorities after the fire sparked at about 10:15 a.m. Wednesday and grew to 25 acres in less than an hour.

Approximately five homes on La Posta Road were affected by the warning.

Hours later, the fire's forward progress was stopped and the evacuation warning was lifted.

On Friday, Cal Fire officials said containment had reached 100 percent.
